Abstract
Below I will - with respect to Norbert Elias - demonstrate that the treatment of people with disabilities in modernity a barbaric sideshow in the long march of the "civilizing process" (Elias 2000) is. The "personality structure" Ableismus (Kumar Campbell 2012) of modernity transforms the own ontological uncertainty aversion to disability and in their disposal. This negating response to biological and mental differences in modernity is supported by the pursuit of the norm of the adjusted human behavior and appearance (Elias 2000) and embedded in the process of civilization tend to smile at the physical or intellectual differences and to be despised. The societal and social policy responses to disability in modern times can not and must not be separated from the emotional aversion to restrictions that characterize the hegemony of the non-disabled. With Elias concepts of psychogenesis and sociogenesis I'll explain how the story of disability in modern times has developed towards a social and ontological invalidation of life of people with disabilities.
