Abstract

In this paper, we present the development of a framework for achieving sustainability in the Lagos transportation sector through a comparative study of policies and measures that have been adopted in Freiburg and London. Current population growth and urbanisation in Lagos have put a great deal of strain on transport infrastructure, which has sparked numerous studies into sustainable solutions. Various authors have expressed issues on congestion type, causes, emissions, sustainability impact, and mitigation measures. Road transport has been identified to contribute 30% of the air pollution concentration in Lagos. This study provides measures to combat the Lagos transport menace while also serving as a model tool for policymakers to achieve sustainability in other Global South cities. A comparative study of Lagos with other sustainable cities was carried out to determine the best practice for achieving sustainability. Future work will include the collection of primary data when developing sustainability measures to ensure inclusiveness and adoption by the public.
