Abstract

This paper examines the role of stakeholder engagement in driving sustainable development through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in the Global North, with a specific focus on the case study of Norway. The project is informed by the growing recognition of the importance of stakeholder engagement and CSR in achieving sustainable development goals. The literature review reveals a considerable body of research on CSR and stakeholder engagement, highlighting their positive impacts on organisational performance and sustainability outcomes. However, there is a research gap concerning the specific role of stakeholder engagement in driving sustainable development through CSR initiatives in the Global North, particularly in the context of Norway. To address this gap, this study intends to investigate the extent and nature of stakeholder engagement practices in Norway's CSR initiatives and analyse their impact on sustainable development outcomes. The research will employ a mixed-method approach, including surveys, interviews, and case studies, to gather data from various stakeholders in Norway's business landscape. The implications of this research are twofold. Positive impacts include the potential to enhance understanding of effective stakeholder engagement strategies, fostering improved CSR practices and sustainable development outcomes. Negative impacts may arise, such as identifying challenges and limitations in stakeholder engagement and implementation. While this study focuses specifically on Norway, it is essential to note that the findings cannot be generalized to other countries in the Global North without further investigation. Future work should involve comparative studies across different regions to provide a more comprehensive understanding of stakeholder engagement's role in driving sustainable development through CSR initiatives in the Global North.
