Abstract

Arguably some of the most important psychological aspects of child development within elite sport are to maintain enjoyment, foster commitment, and to develop competence. Such aspects not only have long-term psychological benefits for dealing with the challenges of elite sport but are also associated with effective coping and performance. The author draws on theory and research to describe the development of positive psychology and enjoyment in elite youth soccer along with highlighting practical solutions and guidelines.
