Abstract
This paper reports on the initial research concept to develop an energy evaluation framework for CNC machine tools. Within this framework, the authors propose new machine specific energy efficient process planning methods and machining energy analysis and testing procedures to support evolving new standards for next generation environmentally conscious machine tools. These test procedures consist of performing a series of pre-defined manufacturing operations to produce standardized test components which will be designed in conjunction with the new evolving environmental CNC machining standard (ISO14955). Based the results of these tests, an environmental machining evaluation will enable energy efficient process planning methods and manufacturing cutting parameters to be identified for individual machines.
