Abstract

The concept of productivity has enjoyed significant coverage in a range of industries and is particularly pertinent for those countries and sectors experiencing labour shortages. The use of technology has increasingly been seen an aid to efficiency and its application is common in manufacturing and some service industries. This paper considers application in the hospitality field and in one of the areas where employee discretion is limited ; housekeeping. The data introduced from the international hotel sector suggest a range of limitations making application difficult given; the absence of realistic benchmarks, cost appraisal of relevant technology, consumer and employee satisfaction.
