Abstract

This paper presents the results of preliminary work on the use of the travelling wave for partial discharge (PD) location in rotating machine stator windings. The proposed method is based on the analysis in the frequency domain of travelling waves from PD pulses in stator windings. With the proposed method, the effect of coupling and resonances resulting from reflections of the travelling wave due to impedance discontinuities in the rotating machine stator windings would be eliminated. The theory underlying the method is also presented.
