Abstract

Based on classic vibrational bending theory on beams, this paper provides comprehensive analytical formulae for vibrational characteristics of continuous timber flooring systems with two unequal spans, including frequency equations, modal frequencies, mode shapes, etc. Three practical boundary conditions are considered for end supports, i.e. fixed, pinned and free supports, and a total of nine combinations of flooring systems are created. The deductions of analytical formulae are also expanded to continuous flooring systems with three equal spans and pinned end supports. The obtained analytical equations for vibrational characteristics can be applied for practical design of continuous flooring systems with two unequal spans or three equal spans. Two design examples are also provided.
