The last 12-18 months have seen a number of important developments that
are impacting on Scottish higher education learning and teaching policy and
practice:
• a new, merged Scottish Funding Council for both further and higher
education;
• a new SNP majority Scottish Government;
• a review of quality arrangements in Scottish further and higher
education by the Scottish Funding Council;
• the establishment of a Scottish Government/Universities Scotland
Joint Future Thinking Task Force on Universities.
The above sector wide cross-disciplinary developments are accompanied, for
legal education and training, by a current review being carried out by the Law
Society of Scotland. This article aims to provide a briefing on these various
developments and the issues they potentially raise.
