Abstract
What is the meaning and purpose of sport? What is the value of sport? And why should we study sport? Sports are important in everyday lives and as human practices. As such, they are worthy of study. The study of sport is inherently inter-disciplinary. This book brings together a collection of scholarly papers that contributes nascent insight into some of the complexities, multiple understandings and contemporary approaches pertinent to sports studies and research. The purpose and content of this book is wide-ranging, and therefore appeals to a wider audience. It allows readers to critically consider how inter-disciplinary approaches range in terms of conceptual depth and practical application. The chapters in this collection include critical and thematic accounts alongside case-specific micro-locale studies. In addition, there is a strong focus on sporting agendas, initiatives and impacts, with a variety of emphases concerning national and global perspectives.
