Digital construction and the quantity surveyor

The construction industry is at an inflection point. Digital technologies are disrupting the industry, providing new opportunities to address the challenges of poor profitability/productivity, project performance, skilled labour shortages and sustainability concerns. The sector, alongside others, is experiencing the Fourth Industrial Revolution that will fundamentally alter the way we work; that of digitisation. Whilst digital construction has been evolving over some time and gathering particular traction in recent years, as yet there is no clear absolute definition of 'digital construction' that is universal amongst leading industry bodies, organisations and academia. Indeed, digital construction encapsulates a broad arena of processes, tools, datasets and technologies and takes many forms. What is agreed, is at the core of digital construction are digital tools and data, separate entities, yet inextricably linked to one another.
