Abstract

In the face of COVID-19 and the immediate (and anticipated) impact on the food and drink sector across rural Scotland, the Scottish Environment Food Agriculture Research Institutes (SEFARI) and Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) established the SEFARI supported knowledge exchange ‘COVID-19 Food and Drink Sector Think Tank for Scotland’s Rural Economy’. The Think Tank was set up with a core membership and also with the intention of accessing ‘expert advisors’ and wider stakeholders.

This report has been developed with the aim of:

Capturing the approach taken and outcomes from the Think Tank up to October 2021.
Highlighting elements from discussions within the Think Tank relating to the challenges faced by the food and drink sector across rural Scotland pre-COVID-19 as well as examples of the impact of COVID-19 across the sector.
Indicating opportunities and emerging priority areas believed to be important moving forward.
Presenting nine key recommendations with calls to action.
