Abstract
A report is presented on the potential use of expert system technology in the design of glass furnaces. It introduces the concepts of expert systems, describes the issues involved in the design of glass furnaces and discusses how expert systems can assist in the design process. A prototype was designed for the design of container glass furnaces and the conclusions following this work are disclosed.
