Abstract
We wished to produce a simple variable prism with a linear scale, but a routine search of the literature revealed nothing that was suitable for our purposes. The Zeiss keratometer and some other ophthalmic devices use the variable decentration of single ophthalmic lenses to obtain prismatic effects combined with a fixed spherical power, and this concept appeared to hold promise.
