Description
This fund will finance a two-week research trip to Cairo in January 2025 for archival research, adding more text-based data to address research aim one. I will consult the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ official magazine, Minbar al-Islam, which is not available online, but available from the American University in Cairo’s library. This project will examine the relationship between authoritarian regimes and religious control in the Middle East, by using AI natural language processing (NLP) techniques to analyse Arabic-language texts of official Islamic sermons and magazines in Egypt.
