Project Details
Description
Preserving Scottish heritage is important for our economy and brings considerable social benefits. However, it is as much about current/future developments as about history. This project embraces "living heritage" and explores the novel application of a geographical information tool for use in a commercial events tourism programme; ‘Turning the Tide on the Clyde’. The programme is a celebration of the Clyde, the rich history of the river; its biodiversity; its communities and activities that take place through organisations, groups and the local business sector.
The Company has conceived this initiative to build better connections along the River Clyde and now requires the multi-discipline of two areas of university expertise; in geography and events-tourism, to apply a novel process, which will enable a detailed digital mapping of events, cultural and geographic resources. This will enhance the programme beyond the format of an events listing/directory and create a spatial, visually interactive resource supporting both developing an events/activities information user interface and identifying opportunities to support and encourage new activity.
Currently, the Covid-19 pandemic is challenging the ability to apply in-person mapping, with ongoing lockdowns and restrictions making it difficult to identify and engage key stakeholders. This project offers a novel solution with the application of geographical mapping – a form of ‘recombinant innovation’. This tool will overcome current restrictions and enhance the development of this commercial event-tourism product.
