Description

At its 20th June 2022 meeting, the City of Edinburgh Council debated the prevention of Drug Related Deaths (DRD) and agreed that it “Calls on the Council to work with partners in health and criminal justice to provide a report to the Policy & Sustainability Committee […] into the feasibility of supporting an official Overdose Prevention Centre trial in the City.” This project combines desk-based and primary research to explore the need, acceptability, and potential impact of a DCR in Edinburgh. GCU have been approached as collaborators, specifically to provide the study with data from the already established Needle Exchange Surveillance Initiative (NESI). Funding will be used to boost the NESI sample in Edinburgh and bring forward data collection in line with study timescales.
