Project Details
Description
Unlike the currently commercially available range of temporary or “demountable” flood barriers to provide additional protection to flood-prone areas which are in the main rigid metal barriers or frames, the novel Albarrier concept offer great flexibility in deployment and storage.
When no longer required the Albarrier profile is drained of water and stored locally until the next time it is needed when the process of erection is repeated. Unlike other rigid systems by its nature the Albarrier is lightweight and easily handled. This offers a great advantage to both flood agencies and to local homeowners.
The partnership between Albarrier and GCU will move the concept along the TRL pathway by giving front end engineering design data and information on unstressed / stressed barrier profile and barrier materials’ selection including the use of sustainable / recycled materials.
The company will use the results from this project to develop a prototype to be developed and constructed and subject to physical testing with a view to a goal of a product which is manufactured in Scotland and exported globally.
