Conspiracy-juror bias: Studying how a conspiracy mindset affects jurors

Project Details

Description

A general predisposition to suspect conspiracies in world events can alter one's perception of society, instilling
distrust and cynicism and weakening social bonds. However, little is understood about the broader consequences,
specifically how a 'conspiracy mindset' may interfere with juror decision-making, a conspiracy-juror bias. This
novel project aims to redress this gap by building on pilot work that has uncovered a link between conspiracy
beliefs and a predisposition to assume others are involved in criminal activities. We aim to explore the
mechanisms that underpin the conspiracy-juror bias and how such a bias can interfere with accurate
interpretations of presented evidence.
