    Project Details

    Description

Abdominal massage has been shown to be effective in relieving the symptoms of constipation in some patients with neurogenic bowel dysfunction (NBD). However to undertake self massage is difficult for those with more severe disability. MOWOOT is an automatic massage device which goes round the abdomen like a broad belt and has massage vibration areas at the front right and left sides which vibrate in sequence.

We aim to undertake a pre-post study with patients with NBD. The primary outcome will be the frequency of defaecation which will be recorded using a bowel diary before, during (4 weeks) and after the intervention. In addition participants will undergo a transit test pre and post intervention and complete symptomatic and QoL questionnaires.
