Research interests

Sven studied optometry in Berlin and Philadelphia and has 20 years of experience in working as an optometrist in Germany and the UK. Following completion of a PhD in Vision Sciences at GCU in 2008 and postdoctoral work at the Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology in Glasgow, Sven joined the faculty at GCU as co-ordinator of the postgraduate course ‘Therapeutic Prescribing for Optometrists’. In 2012 he took up a full-time academic position as lecturer in Vision Sciences, and became programme leader of the MSc Clinical Ophthalmology & Vision Research. Sven’s research interests are in structure and function of the eye in health and disease. More recently, Sven has developed an interest in eye care services research.
