Personal profile

Research interests

I joined GCU in January 2020 as a researcher for the SMYLE (Supporting Mental health services for Young peopLE) study. The project aims to understand the barriers and facilitators to engagement with specialist mental health services for young people. I am also involved in a study in collaboration with Queen’s University Belfast, investigating the psychological well-being impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation among people in Scotland, and I am a member of the Parenting and Family Support Research Group at GCU.

Having a background in international business and management research, my primary research interests lie in the psychological well-being of expatriates and their families assigned to work in hostile environments. I completed my ESRC-funded PhD in 2019 at the University of Stirling, which looked at burnout amongst expatriates working in highly stressful crisis regions. This consisted of a systematic review and both a qualitative and quantitative study. My previous work has investigated expatriates’ fears and coping strategies in high-crime and terror-endangered environments in Africa.
