Mohamed Emad Farrag is a Professor of Electrical Power Engineering at Glasgow Caledonian University, with extensive experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership within the field of power systems. His work focuses on the analysis, operation, and optimisation of modern electrical networks, including the integration of renewable energy sources, smart grid technologies, and sustainable power solutions. He has contributed to the advancement of knowledge through a strong portfolio of publications, collaborative research projects, and supervision of postgraduate students.
Professor Farrag is committed to bridging the gap between academic research and practical industry applications, engaging with international partners and professional bodies to address emerging challenges in energy systems. His expertise supports the development of resilient and efficient power infrastructures, preparing future engineers to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving energy landscape.
Professor Farrag is actively involved in curriculum development and the delivery of high-quality education in electrical and electronic engineering. He has supervised numerous MSc and PhD students, supporting the development of future engineers and researchers in the field. His academic contributions are complemented by engagement with industry partners, ensuring that research outcomes align with real-world applications and emerging energy challenges.
In addition to his academic duties, he serves as an Academic Accreditor with the Institution of Engineering and Technology, contributing to the accreditation of engineering programmes. He is also a Professional Registration Advisor & Interviewer, supporting engineers in achieving professional recognition. Furthermore, he holds the role of Academic Lead for the SSE School, where he provides strategic leadership in education and industry engagement.

Total of over £7 Million worth of awards, funded by national and international fund agencies including UK, EU and the USA.
Research interests
My research focuses on the integration of renewable energy technologies into the electrical grid. The impacts of electrical vehicles on the distribution grid and on the assets. The estimation of EVs battery health for remaining useful life and for second life purposes.
