Dr Lawani is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher in Construction Management in the Department of Construction & Built Environment, School of Science & Engineering at GCU. He is an alma mater of Lulea University of Technology, Sweden; University of Strathclyde, Glasgow; and Glasgow Caledonian University where he obtained his PhD.

His research interests are in Digital Construction Safety, Construction Health & Safety, Worker Engagement, Wind Turbine Safety, Construction Process Management, Construction Waste, Modular Construction and Automation and he has published over 55 research articles. He is actively involved as Co-Investigator and Principal Investigator in a variety of key industry funded projects in Construction Management & OSH, Safety within the Renewable Industry (Wind), Mining and Temporary Works.

Dr Lawani lectures in the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Construction Management Degree Programs covering Construction Management and Construction Project Safety & Health topics. He served as Programme Lead for the BSc Graduate Apprenticeship in Construction and the Built Environment (Quantity Surveying) and Programme Lead for the MSc International Construction Project Management and MSc Quantity Surveying. He is a certified CITB Site Safety Plus approved instructor for the Construction and Civil Engineering Industries. His industry experience include working within the rail sector as a Project Engineer, Project Safety Advisor for wind farm development including pre-construction and construction phase, and trainee Mining Engineer.  

He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), a Chartered Member of the Association of Building Engineer (CABE); member of Temporary Works forum (TWf); member of International Council for Research & Innovation in Building & Construction (CIB) Working Group W099 (Construction Health & Safety); CITB Site Safety Plus certificate in Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS).

Dr Lawani is an academic/peer reviewer for journals of Safety Science; Sustainability MDPI; Frontiers in Built Environment; Journal of Engineering, Design and Technology; ICE Management, Procurement and Law; ARCOM; and CIB W099 & W123 Technical and Scientific Reviewer.
