Profile
Janet Greenlees is a historian of both the United States and Great Britain. She has published widely in both fields and also using a comparative lens. Her areas of research interest include maternal and infant health, maternity care, single mothers, reproductive rights, forced adoption, environmental and occupational health, and women and work. She has secured funding for her research from the Wellcome Trust, AHRC, ESRC and numerous charities. She has held fellowships at the University of Pennsylvania (2022) and Drexel University in the United States (2023), as well as a fellowship with the American Philosophical Society (2024-25). During 2025-26 she will be a Visiting Global Scholar at the Center for Health Humanities at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
Janet has been a co-editor of Social History of Medicine since 2023 and served as the Managing Editor during 2024-25. She is also the Co-Director of the Centre for the Social History of Health and Healthcare, a research collaboration between health historians at GCU and Strathclyde.
