Research interests

Dr. Ibrahim Beklan Kucukdemiral is a Reader at the Department of Applied Science in the School of Computing, Engineering, and Built Environment at Glasgow Caledonian University. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in the UK and a member of IFAC and IEEE. He currently serves as the Vice Chair of the IEEE Control Systems Chapter of the UK & Ireland Section, as well as a Conference Coordinator Officer for the IEEE UK & Ireland Section. He also chairs the Industrial Advisory Board of the of the EEE and ME departments of the school.

Dr. Kucukdemiral received his BSc, MSc, and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from Yildiz Technical University in 1997, 1999, and 2002, respectively. He held a Research and Teaching Assistant position at YTU between 1998-2004 and later served as an Assistant Professor (2004-2010), Associate Professor (2010-2015), and Full Professor (2015-2017) at the same university. He was involved in establishing the new Control and Automation Engineering department under the School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at YTU.

General research interests of Ibrahim B. Kucukdemiral lie within the broad domain of robust, optimal and adaptive control systems, embedded systems, electronics circuits and devices, mechatronics, digital wireless communication systems, data acquisition measurement and sensor technologies and some automotive applications of control theory. He is a member of the editorial board of the Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences (SCI-E) and module leader of several modules, including Industrial Practice, Control Systems II, Model Predictive Control and  Control & Instrumentation Systems (African Leadership College at Mauritius). He has taught around 20 different modules at the graduate and undergraduate levels at universities, including Yildiz Technical University, Istanbul, Glasgow Caledonian University, Glasgow, Turkish Airforce Academy at Istanbul and the University of Sharjah in UAE.

In the last two decades, he (co)investigated many research projects in Turkey and the UK, including the EPSRC research project ROBMAN on the Robust Robotic Manipulation of Physical Structures Under Water which brought  GCU, Heriot-Watt University and i-Tech 7, a branch company of SubSea-7 together. Ibrahim has also (co)supervised 4 PhD students to completion and served as a consultant or reviewer for many industrial and academic projects, including EUREKA EUROSTARS and TUBITAK. He is a member of EPSRC Peer Review College and an external examiner of several universities in England.
