Dr. Gulen Hashmi completed her Doctorate of Business Administration from Business School Lausanne, Switzerland in 2017. She has extensive industry experience having worked in various supervisory and managerial positions in the hospitality industry for about twenty-three years. Her doctoral specialization lies in corporate sustainability strategies and organizational transformation for sustainability, with particular focus on linking corporate and business strategies to societal well-being at large. Gulen has been teaching sustainability and strategic management courses at the postgraduate and undergraduate levels since 2019. Her academic publications are on systemic collaborative challenges of our time, such as collaboration for sustainability, next-practice platforms, human rights and workforce conditions and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With experience also in sustainability consulting, Gulen considers herself an enthusiast for projects that lie on the nexus between practice and theory: she has led a “Human Rights to Water and Sanitation in the Hospitality Industry” sustainability-training project for an international NGO in Geneva, Switzerland; a mentoring project for a luxury hotel in London; and a training on sustainable hospitality for an eco-hotel in Gilgit, Pakistan, to name a few.
