Feminisms and Spaces – a depth psychology enquiry

Activity: Participating in or organising an eventParticipation in conference

Description

Joan Ockman at Yale University, in the Architecture school, sets out the tensions in depth psychological registers in considering space. To simplify: one mode might seem to rest on Bachelard’s phenomenological ‘reveries of felicitous space’ – leaning on nostalgia for what a space means as foundational in assessment of what it is for its inhabitants. She counterposes Foucault’s ‘heterotopia’ moving from intimate spaces to spatial discourses in relation to power and institutional histories – a psychosocial angle we might say.
