Abstract

Bond graph modelling has proven highly successful in the representation of aircraft systems, with emphasis on real-time dynamic simulation for design verification. Much of the experience has been gained using Model Transformation Tools (MTT), the open-source bond graph project available at www.sf.net. This has spawned many recommendations from the user community for long-term improvement, particularly associated with integrated systems and issues of scalability relevant to systems of systems (also known as federated systems). An informal project is underway to address these, the immediate goal being a prototype toolset with the working title of NTT (Next-Generation Transformation Tools). This paper will summarise the motivations behind this development and describe the key changes to the bond graph notation that have been found necessary. This should provide useful insights into the general problem of large-scale bond graphs and suggest options for future development of toolsets like MTT.
