Research interests

Dr Nicola Roberts is a Senior Lecturer within the Department of Nursing and Community Health and affiliated to the Institute for Applied Health Research.   She is Departmental Ethics Committee chair for Nursing and Community Health and Health and Safety representative for the department.

She is a health services researcher with a background in Biological Sciences and Toxicology (MSc PhD).  Since then she has focussed her interests on the delivery of care for long term conditions working at Imperial College, Glasgow University and now Glasgow Caledonian University.  Nicola was previously a research fellow in complex interventions, and is now is a Senior  Lecturer role within the Department.

 

She is the chair of the Nursing and Community Health departmental ethics committee.  Her research and teaching focuses on the evaluating the delivery of care to those with respiratory illnesses. This includes the  evaluation of service developments  such as the  use of lay educators, integration of respiratory healthcare, telephone consultations,  self management tools such as electronic asthma and COPD action plans, improving referrals to pulmonary rehabilitation  and improving patient-HCP communication.   She has a particular interest in improving consultations considering areas such as health literacy to improve comprehension and compliance.

 Asthma and COPD self-management software is available to download for those interested in using this and details are below. The British Lung Foundation contributed towards the development costs of this work.

Instructions for installation

Please download the zipped file to your desktop, extract into a new folder (suggested name AAP), and run the installation file (open the new folder and double-click AAP.exe to run the software). The software can be used as a demo for training and teaching purposes. For patients please enter the patient's name and add the HCP details by pressing the add button.  Details of the publication associated with the software are detailed below.  For any comments or queries please contact Nicola.

Instructions for installation

Please download the zipped file to your desktop, extract into a new folder and run the installation file. This will download the software to your computer and thereafter a link should be on your start-up menu to run the program. After installation you can delete the downloaded files.
