Research interests

Dr Karen Lorimer (BA (Hons), MPhil, PhD, PGCAP, FHEA) is a Senior Research Fellow in Public Health in the School of Health & Life Sciences/Institute for Applied Health Research.  She is a medical sociologist, interested in exploring risk behaviours for STIs within the context of social relations and structural-level influences, methods for reaching hard-to-reach populations, impact of technology on sexual behaviour and sexual health, wellbeing.

Karen leads the sexual health theme of work in the Institute group. 

Karen completed the PGCert in Academic Practice in 2008 and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. In January 2012 she became a member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) Young Academy of Scotland (until 31/12/16). She became a member of the Global Young Academy in 2013, and currently leads the working group on 'Global State of Young Scientists (GloSYS)'. In 2013, Karen became a member of the Scotland and Northern Ireland Vitae Hub Advisory Board.
